rescue little miss Love Udor

Rescue little Miss Love Udor

On Sunday, the 3rd of January 2021, we received a call on our dedicated line, seeking the prompt intervention of Lawyers Alert to rescue little Miss Love Udor, a 13 year old little girl that was brought all the way from Akwa Ibom state, with a promise of a domestic work in Lagos, only to be traded for prostitution in makurdi.
FACTS OF THE CASE:
Love Udor lives with her widowed mother in Akwa Ibom state. The mother breaks and sells firewood for a living. The innocent widow was approached by one lady who is simply identified as Jennifer with a job prospect for Love Udor, who would work as a domestic staff and have the opportunity to earn enough money to save up for her education. Enthusiastically the innocent widow handed over her daughter to Jennifer with the hope that her daughter is Lagos bound. Miss Love was however brought down to makurdi the Benue state capital and was made to understand the nature of her new found employment. In her first assignment she was handed over to a man who assaulted her for her non compliance. She was able to rescue herself from the assailant and sought help from passerbys . Her case was brought to the attention of a women led organisation in makurdi, who inturn contacted Lawyers Alert. The team sprang into action immediately and the said Jennifer together with the assailant were apprehended. They were deposited at E. Division police station and an application was brought to the DPO to have the case transferred to the State HQ for further necessary actions.

Superintendent Ann of the gender unit at the HQ took over the matter and the first question the said Jennifer was asked is....What do you do for a living? She replied that she works for supplement company known as NEO LIFE
At the mention of that name, the officer dropped into her chair with hands on her head.
This same company, she reiterated, has 4 case file at the HQ with same issue of child trafficking and peddling teenagers into prostitution. That one of the girls who managed to escape from their hold, made a statement at the station that at a particular camp where they were held up, there were more than 13 young girls all being fed with substances that will beat them into subservience. There is already a man hunt for the manager of the said company in makurdi.

The mother of the 13 year old girl was able to be located and brought down to makurdi to be reunited with her daughter. The perpetrators will be arraigned in court tomorrow for onward prosecution
