A Coalition of Small and Medium Organizations dedicated to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) emerged through the Amplify Change grant facilitated by Lawyers Alert from 2018 - 2020. Lawyers Alert want government to ensure
citizen’s reproductive health rights
Governments at all levels in Nigeria have been charged to ensure that Citizens’ Sexual Reproductive Health Rights are guaranteed.
This was the thrust of a 2-day capacity building training for stakeholders including legal and media practitioners as well as members of Civil Societies to build their capacity on reproductive justice issues.

Lawyers Alert commemorates World TB Day
Nigerians have been cautioned to stop discriminating against Persons Affected by Tuberculosis.
This is coming on the heels of the 2023 world TB day marked globally to raise awareness of the disease and educate people not to discriminate against victims.

#JUSTICE4SGBVSURVIVORS: Osun government charged on implementation of VAPP/ACJ Laws
The Osun State Government has been charged to implement the Violence Against Person Prohibition and Administrative Criminal Justice Laws in the state.
Concerned residents and nonprofit groups in the state during an awareness campaign at Orisunbare market in Osogbo warned people in the state not to run foul of the law.

How Command Secondary School ‘rejected’ 12-year-old student ‘over HIV status’
When 12-year-old Jude (not his real name) told his mother he wanted to become a naval officer, she knew she had to support his dreams as his only living parent. An option she would begin with was getting him into a Command Secondary School, a chain of schools run by the Nigerian army. But an “expulsion” from school over Jude’s positive HIV status would leave Agnes Okoro, his mother, frantic about how to pull her once bubbly son out of the hollow cave of suicidal thoughts he sank into.

Lawyers Seek Laws To Address Stigma, Discrimination Of TB Patients
Over the last four months, a deep and dry cough can be heard from Ikpang Joy’s (not real name) single room in Kubwa. It’s from her mother who has been bed ridden since she was brought to Abuja.
The poor woman was ferried from her village in far away Akwa Ibom State under the guise of accessing health care in the city.
However, she is constantly locked up and denied proper treatment for fear of stigmatisation and discrimination from neighbours, friends and associates, despite the fast deteriorating state of her health.

Coalition for protection of rights of TB patients debuts
A coalition comprising Tuberculosis (TB) survivors, members of civil society organisations, lawyers, health workers and journalists emerged on Tuesday, March 29, to fight against the violation of the rights of persons affected by TB.
Aside from being sick, persons with TB are not always allowed to return to their jobs on grounds of being absent during the duration of their ailment, or on the exaggerated claim that they could infect others.

Workshop identifies reasons for discrimination against persons affected by TB
Lack of adequate information and awareness have been identified as major factors fueling discrimination against persons affected by Tuberculosis and worsening their situation.
The reasons were revealed at a two-day workshop in Lagos State by non-governmental organisations on the disease.
The NGOs called on the media to sensitise the public on the need to end discrimination against the affected persons and support them to overcome the challenge.

Humanitarian Lawyer Advocates For Domestication Of TB Patients’ Rights In Nigeria
A legal and humanitarian rights advocate (Lawyers Alert), has called on the presidency and National Assembly to give victims of tuberculosis in Nigeria a lifeline by domesticating their rights in line with the Declaration of the Rights of People Affected by Tuberculosis that was launched in Geneva, Switzerland in May 2019.

The launching of Declaration of the Rights of People affected by Tuberculosis was launched in Geneva, Switzerland in May 2019.
The Nigerian situation even though had improved significantly in terms of TB, early detection and treatment, with constant input from the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme and other development partners.

Data on human rights abuse associated with petty offences in Nigeria covering the period October 2019 and March 2020 have been released by Lawyers Alert.
The Data detailing the analysis of human rights violations based on types of petty offences is with a view to serving as useful tool for advocacy towards decriminalization of petty offences in the country.
The findings on Petty Offences in Nigeria by Lawyers Alert, a non-profit body, in partnership with Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) focused on ten violations most rampant, reported and monitored.
