A Tuberculosis (TB) survivor who was previously disengaged from his workplace due to his health status has been reinstated following the intervention of Lawyers’ Alert. The case underscores ongoing concerns around TB-related stigma and workplace discrimination, where individuals affected by TB often face unjust job loss, social exclusion, and violations of their rights.

The survivor’s dismissal reflects a broader pattern of discrimination experienced by people affected by TB, where misconceptions about the disease continue to impact employment security, dignity, and access to livelihood opportunities. His reinstatement, however, marks a significant victory for workplace justice and reinforces the role of legal advocacy in protecting vulnerable workers.

Lawyers’ Alert intervened in the matter to challenge the unfair treatment and advocate for the enforcement of the survivor’s rights. The successful resolution led to his reinstatement, restoring not only his job but also his sense of dignity and financial stability.

Reflecting on his experience, the survivor in a video testimony, shared his experience of stigma, loss, and eventual reinstatement, describing the emotional and economic impact of being removed from employment due to his TB status.

“Losing my job because of TB was one of the most difficult experiences of my life. I felt rejected and uncertain about how I would support myself and my family. Thanks to Lawyers’ Alert, I was able to seek justice and regain my employment. This victory reminds us that TB survivors have rights and should never be discriminated against because of their health status.”

His story serves as a powerful reminder that no one should lose their job because of a health condition, and that access to justice remains essential in protecting the rights and dignity of people affected by TB.

Speaking on the intervention, the Director Legal Lawyers’ Alert Barr. Bamidele Jacobs stated, “No individual should lose their job because of a health condition. This case demonstrates the importance of protecting the rights of people affected by TB and challenging discrimination wherever it occurs. We remain committed to ensuring that survivors have access to justice and are treated with dignity, fairness, and respect in their workplaces and communities.”

This development highlights the critical importance of legal support in addressing TB-related discrimination and strengthening access to justice for affected persons. It demonstrates how timely legal intervention can correct injustices and restore livelihoods, while also sending a strong message against workplace discrimination based on health status.

In a video testimony, the survivor shared his experience of stigma, loss, and eventual reinstatement, describing the emotional and economic impact of being removed from employment due to his TB status. His story serves as a powerful reminder that no one should lose their job because of a health condition, and that access to justice remains essential in protecting the rights and dignity of people affected by TB.
