Lawyers Alert has contributed to the development of Nigeria’s 2027–2031 Tuberculosis National Strategic Plan (NSP) through active participation in a key stakeholders’ meeting convened by the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme (NTBLCP). The engagement brought together key actors in the TB response to strengthen coordination and ensure that the next phase of Nigeria’s TB strategy is evidence-based, inclusive, and responsive to emerging realities.

Our team members, Peace Okeshole and Ayomide Joshua, participated in the two-day technical engagement, which provided a platform for in-depth discussions on Nigeria’s tuberculosis epidemiological review, assessment of TB surveillance systems, and root cause analysis of persistent gaps in TB prevention and treatment. The sessions also built on previous consultations aimed at shaping a more robust and results-oriented national strategic framework for TB control.

Lawyers Alert’s contribution focused on ensuring that community perspectives, alongside gender and human rights considerations, are meaningfully integrated into the strategic plan. This is critical to addressing structural barriers that limit access to services, particularly for vulnerable and underserved populations, and to improving overall health outcomes in TB-affected communities.

This engagement underscores our continued commitment to advancing inclusive, rights-based approaches in public health programming. It also reflects our broader goal of strengthening health systems and ensuring that no one is left behind in Nigeria’s efforts to prevent, control, and ultimately eliminate tuberculosis.
