Lawyers Alert participated in a one-day training aimed at equipping young people in Benue State with skills in digital human rights reporting and community-led documentation. The training, hosted by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), United Nations, in partnership with the National Human Rights Commission and Lawyers Alert, focused on strengthening grassroots accountability and amplifying community voices through the use of modern digital tools.

The engagement sought to build the capacity of youths to effectively document and report human rights violations within their communities. Speaking at the event, the President of Lawyers Alert, Dr. Rommy Mom, who served as a resource person, highlighted the critical role of technology in addressing human rights abuses. He noted that digital tools enable real-time reporting, improve evidence gathering, and increase the visibility of violations, thereby enhancing accountability and response mechanisms.
Participants were encouraged to apply the knowledge gained to document cases, engage relevant stakeholders, and contribute to promoting a more transparent and rights-respecting society. The training provided practical guidance on the use of digital tools for documentation and reporting, reinforcing the importance of timely, accurate, and community-driven data in advancing human rights protection.
At the close of the event, Lawyers Alert Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Francisca Uhembe, received a Certificate of Achievement in recognition of her outstanding participation and demonstrated proficiency throughout the program. This recognition reflects the organization’s continued commitment to strengthening human rights reporting and promoting accountability at the grassroots level.
