The President of Lawyers Alert, alongside staff members, received a delegation from the Open Society Foundations (OSF) and partners from Colombia at the organization’s headquarters in Makurdi, Benue State, ahead of the official launch of the Benue People-Centered Public Safety Programme by Governor Hyacinth Alia.
In preparation for the launch, the OSF delegation held a strategic meeting with Lawyers Alert to review progress on programme implementation and outline the agenda for the next three days.

In his welcome remarks, Lawyers Alert President, Dr. Rommy Mom, highlighted that the delegation’s presence underscores the significance of Benue State’s formal adoption of the initiative. He noted that the People-Centered Public Safety framework is designed to rebuild trust between communities and security agencies while ensuring that citizens play an active role in shaping security responses, particularly during crises.
Over the coming days, Lawyers Alert will facilitate engagements between the OSF delegation, the Benue State Government, and other key stakeholders to assess prevailing safety realities across the state and to strengthen collaborative, community-driven solutions.
The OSF delegation commended Lawyers Alert for championing a participatory approach to public safety, noting that the initiative continues to enhance trust and cooperation between citizens and security institutions.
