Staff of Lawyers Alert Nigeria have participated in an intensive Digital Rights Advocacy, Activism, and Security Capacity Building Programme for civil society organizations in West Africa, held from 2–5 March 2026 in Abuja. The programme is designed to strengthen the capacity of civil society actors to effectively use digital tools for advocacy, enhance secure online activism, and counter emerging threats in the digital space.
Representing Lawyers Alert at the training were Prosper Gabriel, Senior IT Officer, and Jennifer Adasu, Media Officer. The programme, funded by the Mott Foundation and facilitated by the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI), provided participants with comprehensive training on digital advocacy strategies, campaign planning, online storytelling, social media engagement, and methods to identify and counter misinformation. Participants were also exposed to practical approaches for safeguarding digital assets, protecting sensitive data, and mitigating risks associated with online activism.
The training equips Lawyers Alert staff to leverage technology to amplify their advocacy on human rights, transparency, and civic participation, while also ensuring the organization maintains resilience against cyber threats. By combining digital literacy with strategic advocacy skills, the programme empowers staff to design and implement campaigns that reach broader audiences, influence policy discussions, and promote accountability across government and societal institutions.
This capacity-building initiative reflects Lawyers Alert’s commitment to modernizing its advocacy approaches and ensuring that its staff are prepared to navigate the complex digital landscape. It also underscores the organization’s leadership in integrating technology with human rights activism, ultimately enhancing the effectiveness, reach, and impact of its programs across Nigeria and the West African region.
