Lawyers Alert participated in a stakeholders’ meeting convened by the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme (NTBLCP) to assess the implementation of Nigeria’s National Strategic Plan on Tuberculosis (2021–2026).

The meeting brought together representatives from federal and state health institutions, development partners, civil society organizations, implementing partners, and technical experts to evaluate progress under the current TB strategic framework. Reports from assessment teams reviewing implementation across states formed the basis of the discussions.

Participants examined achievements, gaps, and emerging challenges in areas such as case detection, treatment coverage, drug-resistant TB management, community engagement, health systems strengthening, and financing. Attention was also given to disparities in service delivery across states, barriers to accessing diagnosis and treatment, and the need to improve data quality and reporting.

The stakeholders agreed that the next strategic plan must be evidence-driven, inclusive, and aligned with global best practices, while responding to Nigeria’s unique epidemiological and socio-economic realities.

Lawyers Alert’s participation highlighted its commitment to supporting evidence-based health interventions, promoting accountability, and ensuring a rights-based approach to public health. The outcomes of the review are expected to inform the drafting of a comprehensive TB strategic framework to accelerate progress toward national and global TB elimination targets.
